- iPad 9th generation with a faster chip, Touch ID, better battery optimizations etc
- New iPad mini with edge-to-edge display now, Touch ID, about 80% faster graphics performance and a lot of other new features.
- Apple Watch Series 7 which disappointedly now has a rounder body (not the flat one we anticipated), smaller bezels (and a larger screen with no actual size difference in the body/shell), a more durable glass, new colors etc
- iPhone 13 lineup, which is what we're here to talk about.
The iPhone 13 and 13 mini now have a different diagonal camera layout with physically larger sensors which make way for better portraits and a new feature called cinematic mode which automatically picks focus subject in videos (like in movies); Apple of course had a short movie titled "Whodunnit" to show off this feature. It's still a 12MP system with larger apertures and a CPU that's "50% faster". The 64GB variant won't be available this year, the base storage has been moved up to 128GB and the best part is; both devices will cost basically the same as last year's devices. And as always, the A15 Bionic brings better graphics performance to the iPhone and better battery optimizations that'll allow the iPhone 13 last 2.5 hours longer than the iPhone 12 and the 13 Mini 1.5 hours than the 12 Mini; at least that is what they told us. All the 2021 iPhones now have a way smaller notch, it's not gone but it's definitely smaller.
The iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max is where we see major improvements. The iPhone 13 pro now sports physically larger sensors and can now take macro shots!. The 13 Pro (and 13 Pro max) of course now also have cinematic mode, better night mode, ProRes Video support making it the ONLY smartphone in the world capable of doing that and a new photography-related feature called "Photographic Styles" that basically allows the photographer to add his own style/look directly to the image processing pipeline. We also had a video (short movie) demo showing what the iPhone 13 Pro can really do and it is AMAZING! and cinematic mode is definitely something else to write a full article about. The feature we had all been waiting for was also announced; ProMotion, iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max now have displays that support fluid 120HZ refresh rate, when you need it of course. The iPhone 13 Pro also has a noticeably larger and thicker camera "platter" like last year's 12 Pro max. both Pro devices are also priced similarly to last year's devices at $999 and $1099 respectively (base storage), there is also a new 1TB option now for the Pro and Pro Max.
Apple also announced new colors for these devices and new MagSafe accessories such as the new leather MagSafe wallet which now has FindMy support incase you lose your wallet, and new colors for the (MagSafe) silicon cases. iOS 15 RC, WatchOS 8 RC, iPadOS 15 RC were also released to developers and public beta testers too which gives us a look at what the final softwares will look like with public versions going live to all users later this fall. All these new iPhone 13 series devices will be available for Pre-order on Friday 17th and available in stores on September 24th. We don't have an exact availability date for the Apple Watch 7 except that it will be available "Later this fall".
