The blues number 9 Tammy Abraham has been participating in full training after recovering from an ankle injury and made the bench for the Blues’ last two games – a 4-1 win over Crystal Palace and 1-0 defeat to Porto.
Despite not playing in the match since he was taken off at half-time in a 1-1 draw with Southampton in February, Abraham remains Chelsea’s top scorer this season on 12 goals across all competitions
But with talks growing over his future at Stamford Bridge, Tuchel made the decision to drop the Blues Tammy Abraham from his 20-man squad for their FA Cup semi-final against Premier League champions-elect City.
And speaking ahead of the clash at Wembley, the German boss suggested Abraham was excluded due to a drop in his confidence levels.
Tuchel said: There isn’t much on Tammy but he’s lost a little bit of confidence recently and we’ve taken the hard decision to leave him out,’ said Tuchel.
‘It was a tough decision but we decided to go with Timo, and with Kai and Oli Giroud from the bench.’
Tuchel made three changes from the team that played against Porto in midweek, with Kepa Arrizabalaga replacing Edouard Mendy between the sticks and Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech coming in for Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic.
