EKSU INAUGURATES NEWLY ELECTED SUG EXECUTIVE, PLANS TO LAUNCH A DRESS CODE FOR ALL STUDENTS

      Alade Emmanuel Kehinde received the baton of leadership on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 and sworned in Ekiti State University Student Union President for the 2020/2021 academic session alongside other members of the executive, while the 2019/2020 Student Union administration led by Aladedahunsi Temitope Emmanuel, dissolved.

Following the order of programme, the inauguration commenced at exactly 11am, anchored by Mr. Bode Olofinmuagun, Head of Directorate of Information & Corporate Affairs.

In his opening remarks, the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Ademilua, appreciated the presence of students at the occasion, however, expressed dissatisfaction towards the low attendance.

While addressing students, he mentioned how the university had lately and prudently displayed hi-tech knowledge of electronic voting which would substitute the traditional method.

“A look back at the just concluded SUG election, the use of electronic method has provided rancour-free, hitch-free and credible results. This is one of the best methods.”

He thus assured sustainability measures to prevent the e-voting system from waving off.

The Vice-chancellor, Prof. Edward Olanipekun in his speech, congratulated the newly inaugurated executives and implored them not to embark on any destructive struggles in and outside the university.

Prof. Olanipekun addressed the issue of tuition fee for which less than fifty percent of the student population have paid. In spite of this poor commitment, the university allows installmental payment. However, very few students have maximized the opportunity.

“In this learning environment, our school fee is the most student-friendly. Therefore, we charge this new administration to extend to all the entire students to ensure they pay up their school fee at an appropriate time so, the university could still be afloat”, He outrightly said.

The Vice-chancellor also disclosed that the school management has made arrangement to purchase a student union bus, however, the day of its arrival would be communicated very soon.

He thereafter disclosed other ongoing developments made possible by the school management.

“Concerning the issue of results in the department of Political Science, we have equally taken a diligent step to rectify and put everything back in order, likewise the issue of hostel accommodation and electricity agitated by the outgone administration.

“Also, the university would launch a dress code; uniform, as a means of identification of EKSU student amidst others.

“We, therefore, urge all the new executives to adequately and ably address the issue of consultation, consolidation before confrontation.” He said.

While clarifying what the school management means by launching of dress code, the Dean of Student Affairs explained that students with dreadlocks, randy and bizzare dressing would not be allowed in the university environment.

“The school management will put up a banner against indecent and provocative dressing at strategic locations on campus. When this is out, followed by adequate measures, then we would be able to identify our bonafide Students.”

Barrister Gbemisola Oladele, Legal Officer to Ekiti State University, in her briefing, said that the signing of oath form was a way of reaffirming that the newly inaugurated SUG executives must conduct themselves in a peaceful manner throughout the time of service.

During the swearing-in and oath declaration, the newly inaugurated SUG Executives present include Alade Emmanuel, President; Adeniyi Ebenezer, Welfare Director; Lawal Ibrahim, Vice-President 2; Bello Iyanuoluwa, Financial Secretary; Bakare Taofeek, Public Relations Officer; Balogun Matthew, General Secretary; Ajee Olatunji, Sport Director 2; Idowu Tolulope, Assistant General Secretary; Ojelabi Blessing, Sport Director; Falodun Sunday, Social Director; and Ilesanmi Abiodun, Treasurer. While Prof. Ademilua pleaded that Barr. Gbemisola allows other executives; Adeteye Titilope, Vice-president 1 and Taiwo Adeola, Financial Secretary take their oath after the inauguration for their absence at the event.

Alade, in his acceptance speech, extended his gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, Staff, Stakeholders and the entire students of Ekiti State University.

“I bless God and render all doxology to the omnipotent for this success. Now, that I have taken the mantle as the 2020/2021 student union President, my first priority as the Student Union President is students’ welfarism going by the insecurity and electricity among others as these are the major challenges that cut across educational growth in this 21st century.”

In a press briefing, Alade revealed his administration’s plans and looks forward to achieving them with the students cooperation without forcible agitation.

“We have organized ten committees to look into different issues ranging from transportation to electricity to financial assistance and results, among others. Each committee is controlled by students, so it would be very easy for us to resolve issues as regards any of these difficulties”, He said.

“If any student needs financial assistance, they should let us know. We could write letter to the Alumni association of the school on behalf of such Student. Even as an ex-governor in my department, I called parents to boost their morale, so they could rally round and respond to the financial needs of their ward as soon as possible.”

Immediate past President, Aladedahunsi Temitope, urged the newly inaugurated executives not to forget their promise, as they have taken an oath to be of good conduct throughout their stay in office.

“Although, there is bound to be challenges and the school management might just want to deal with them, however, it is a norm and they can one way or the other avoid it. They should be diplomatic in everything they do. I ran my administration without a protest and it was a success. We never protested, rather, were diplomatic in all our approach.” He said.

Saheed Adeleke Oluwatosin, former President of the Faculty of Engineering talked to a correspondent of ACJ-EKSU about the new president.

“Alade is a very good leader. He cares a lot for the students and going by popularity, he is well known for welfarism and someone that put people before him; always ready to help especially in financial situation.

“Talking about his capacity and ability to rule, I believe he would lead right just like he has promised during the manifesto. All he needs is the cooperation and supports from the students”, He concluded.

Dr. Femi Olanipekun, Deputy Registrar, while drawing the curtain, extended his vote of thanks to the audience for their patience and orderliness throughout the programme. In this regard, he wished the 2020/2021 Student Union administration a smooth and successful tenure.
